Using Bleach to Cure Toenail Fungus

One might have come across a unique remedy for treating toenail fungus using bleach. Using bleach as a remedy for the fungus in the nail is one of the most popular remedies as it has largely replaced the prescriptions, medications and commercial home remedies. However, bleach consumes about ½ hour and hence, many people find it difficult to perform when it comes as a regular task on daily basis.

soaking foot in bleach pictureUsing the bleach for toenail fungal infection is much cheaper as compare to other home remedies or natural ways to cure the infection. Some of the cosmetologists suggest a weekly foot soaking in a solution of one part of chlorine bleach to 100 parts of the water. This keeps the feet feeling fresh and clean decreasing the chance of having toenail fungal infection. Other group of cosmetologists recommends that a stronger solution made out of one part of bleach and just 10 parts of water will be best for removing toenail fungal infection as well as the stains from the area. In such case, the solution is to be applied directly onto the affected area.

Using bleach for toenail fungal infection requires skills and some directions. First of all, one should trim down the nail as much as possible but there one should remember that the nail is to be cut-off from only front side and not from the sides. One can file down the nail from the above so that the nail becomes thinner and better to treat. Some of the people by their experience suggest that super diluted bleach will be the best for treating such thinner nails. They suggest using one tablespoon of bleach into one gallon of water and soaking the feet for about ½ hour a day for 15-20 days. For better results, 10-15 minutes in the morning and rest in the evening.

Though the chlorine bleach is hazardous chemical, it is corrosive and it will damage any skin that has been exposed while bleaching the toenail fungus infected area. It is therefore, advised to use such bleach in diluted form and the fumes coming out of it should not be inhaled. Such bleaches are to be kept out of the reach of children and eyes should not come in contact with them. The bleach creates an environment that is not healthy for fungus to be alive or to grow further. They get suffocated and then killed. Bleaches often contain some acidic material that is not digestible for the fungus and it dies of that.

One should remember that after bleaching the affected area is to be washed thoroughly with warm water as hot water is likely to destroy fungus. Once washed, the part is to be bone-dried with the help of hairdryer. One can then put some antiseptic powder that can absorb the extra moisture and keep the nail and its surrounding area healthy. The disinfectant powder is also to be put into the socks and the shoes to prevent any infection of the feet and so of the nails.
